What Do We Do?
Updated January 2021:
We are pivoting back to our original mandate which is to provide quality educational resources to the community including high-quality online tutorials and how-to documents. We also love design so you'll see plenty of that in our future!
The more significant part of our mission is to keep needle arts relevant and interesting so that future generations can benefit from these crafts like we do. Heritage arts have a way of dying out, and we don't want that to happen. We support local fairs and guilds, and continually want to be involved in community events that allow us a venue to showcase our little stitchy world.
These days, after what seems like a long hiatus, the market for cross stitch and needle arts is starting to flourish. I am so thrilled to see this happening and to be a part of it! A new generation of stitchers is here, and I want to make sure that the niche for modern day cross stitch accessories is covered. The hobby itself is beautiful, and gorgeous accessories to support the craft should be available and easily accessible.
Our Core Values
Core Values are an important part of any organization: big, small, or tiny (like us!). Defined as the fundamental beliefs of a person or company, core values allow businesses to align their offering with their vision and the brand they want to build. Chelsea Buns Cross Stitch operates on the following three core values:
Create Art. Create Value. Create an Experience.
Offering and creating product that is gorgeous, relevant, and useful. To provide a boutique-like, small business experience full of value and beauty. We think it's important to touch and feel everything we ship to make sure the quality is something we would want in our stash.
Encourage Everyone: New, Experienced, and In Between.
We encourage people to get involved with cross stitch and needle arts in general. Our goal is to create a brand that gets people asking questions: a safe place for people to learn and connect. To build out a community of fellow stitchers who pass down and share information.
For Ourselves. For Our Customers.
In an era riddled with technology and social media, we want to create a company that is mindful of self-care and wellness, both for ourselves and for our customers. Stitching is an incredible way to ease stress and spend time with yourself. Stitch your stress away.
We love to collaborate, so don't hesitate to contact us if you would like to work with us on a project or on some messaging!
These reasons can be deeply personal and vary widely, but here are a few of our favourites:
It’s cheaper than therapy. (Depending on the size of your stash…)
It can be used as a legitimate mental health coping strategy as a part of therapy or simply self-care.
It helps calm the soul. Just the nature of pushing your needle in and out of the fabric is rhythmic and soothing.
In a world full of technology and distraction, stitching helps bring us back into the present moment and focuses us on the work at hand.
Cross-stitch is truly an art. Just because you didn’t design the chart doesn’t mean you aren’t an artist.
Handmade family heirlooms are rare these days. Stitching meaningful pieces that can be passed down generation after generation is truly something special.
Cross-stitch is a social hobby. Stitchers are wonderful humans. Whether it be online stitching groups, retreats, stitch days, or just encounters at the local needle shop, the stitching community is a wonderful and inspiring thing to be a part of.
When it comes right down to it, and perhaps most importantly, it’s truly the only time you can stab something thousands of times and not go to jail. 😉
